WWII Army - Navy Observer Wings E Award prop & wings
1- Nice condition E-Award with nice patina. Pin in nice shape but sorry, no card. Women Working During World War II -- The E-award was the Army-Navy Award for Excellence in War Production. An E-award was awarded to a company and its employees for excellence, like if they produced a large number of war materials or filled their order in a short amount of time. They were most commonly given in the form of a pin with a card certifying their contribution to the war effort with a message from the president.
1- Air Force Supervisor Ground Observer Corps wings, Good condition, light wear. Nice patina. Enameled. Pinback. measures 1 1/4 inches wide. the GOC pin is a Korean era item. The US Army ran the AWS (the GOC was the civilian component), not the US Air Force. The Air Force wasn't established until 1947. The GOC was reestablished by the Air Force I think in 1951. It went on into the early 1960's. The Ground Observer Corps (GOC) traced its roots to World War II when 1.5 million civilian volunteers were enrolled by the Army Air Forces to man 14,000 observation posts positioned along the nation's coasts. With limited radar detection capability, the GOC's mission was to visually search the skies for enemy aircraft attempting to penetrate American airspace. With the declining threat to America from German and Japanese air forces, the Army Air Forces disestablished the GOC in 1944.
